Population: 27’148,000 habitants, 72% is urban and 23% rural.

Political Situation: Peru is a democratic republic, where presidential elections are held every 5 years. The stability of the democracy has been strengthen during the recent elections on June 2006.
Freedom of speech and press is guaranteed by the constitution and numerous institutions.

Culture and Society:
Peru is a nation of mixed cultural and ethnic origins. 500 years ago, the occidental Spanish culture was joined to the ancestral traditions of the Incas, forming the Peruvian identity.
This society developed different social groups because of the influence of factors like the geography of each region, economical levels and other international cultures.
Today, this diversity is represented in art, gastronomy and costumes, making of Peru one of the best representatives of life in Latin America.
