Spanish is commonly spoken across the country.
Quechua, the language of the Incas, is spoken in the mountain. Aymara is mainly spoken in the communities of Puno. In the jungle, different dialects are spoken.
Peruvian Spanish has a low accent and is easy to understand, which is ideal for the learning of this language. Our programmes include Spanish courses in Lima and Cusco.

When visiting Peru

Take resilient luggage, one sturdy suitcase, backpack or gripped bag, plus one hand bag (a small daypack that you can wear on your back or shoulder leaving your hands free) for your notebook, camera etc.

Remember to leave spare capacity for the things you might buy on the journey, so take as little as possible. In Peru you can find all type of products of daily use at low cost.

Don't take more than you can comfortably carry and the maximum weight accepted by national airlines is 25 kg. It is a good idea to close bags with a small padlock around the zippers to discourage tampering.

Beautiful woollen goods and ordinary clothes such as T-shirts can be bought locally. There are laundry services in most of the cities.

When visiting the jungle
You are only allowed to take 5 kg. into the boat (during the transfer to the lodge), depending on your itinerary you can leave most of your luggage in the hotel.
Plan for splitting your luggage into what is essential to take and what you can leave.

We recommend you to take on a hand bag:
- Good binoculars
- Camera gear (ASA 50, 100 and 200 are recommended)
- Two or three pairs of long cotton pants
- Four pairs of absorbent cotton socks
- Raincoat or long poncho (100% waterproof - test before you leave home)
- Three or four long - sleeved cotton shirts
- Two or three T-shirts
- Sun blocking lotion
- Swimsuit
- A bottle or canteen to carry water on outings
- A hat that will not come off in windy boat rides
- One or two pair of shorts
- Sunglasses
- Two pairs of sneakers or hiking boats (with good gripping soles)
- Insect repellent
- A photocopy of your passport
- A bright flashlight and batteries
- Personal toiletries and medications

Guests should arrive in clothes which they do not mind getting slightly dirty or wet.

When hiking the Inca Trail

For the Inca Trail you are allow to take only 5 kg. Depending on your itinerary you can leave most of your main luggage in the hotel, so plan for splitting your luggage into what is essential to take on the trek and what can be left in the hotel.

Porters will carry your main luggage tied on to their back, so if you use a pack it must be frameless and waterproof. You must carry all your daytime needs in a day pack because the porters will walk ahead.

We recommend you to take:
- Sleeping bag
- Raincoat
- Sunglasses
- Sun blocking lotion
- Light hiking shoes
- Cotton long sleeved shirts and T-shirts
- Wool sweater
- Wool socks
- Parka
- Blue jeans
- Water bottles
- Flashlight with spare batteries
- Camera
- Personal medication

If desire, sleeping bags can be rented in Peru.
